Anyone fancy a pub crawl ? When I were younger you could have a proper pub crawl round Silsden. Not sure you can these days… We used to start off at t’Robin, call in at t’Bridge and then wander down to t’Grouse. Then we’d wander back up town to t’ Red Lion. We’d go upstairs for a game of pool and have to run the gauntlet of getting to the top of the stairs when everyone would turn round to see who was coming in. If you didnt get a bottle of Pils thrown at you, you could come in. After that we’d wander up and go to t’Punch and t’King. You’d see folk doing them same pubs in a slightly different order – it were allus busy up High Street on a Friday and Saturday night. As well as the pubs, there were the choice of the Legion, Twisters or even Con Club. For a period we even had Bonaparte’s or whatever version of the Wine bar it was at the time.
What now ? Well, not so much. Grouse, Bridge and even Con Club are now houses. Twisters never seems to open and there are even rumours that another pub is going to shut soon. Gone are the days when folk in number aplenty used to wander up and down the high street of a weekend, It’s a reet sad state of affairs – and I fancy a pint…
