Gala day
Na then!
I’m not in Silsden for Gala day – er indoors has booked us a week in a caravan at Brid. She’s not fro’ Silsden and so doesnt understand the cultural importance.
So as I write this I dont know what Gala day will bring, but I can have a guess… The weather will either have been reet grand and Silsden will be full of red faced folk come 7pm – stood outside the various hostelries, clutching the plastic glasses which only come out on Gala day, having been up to t’field for a go on the waltzer. Or – it will have been pouring down and everyone will have popped out for half an hour, watched the procession and then buggered off home, with only a few hardcore sticking it out. Never in between – it’s never in between in Silsden on Gala day.
I allus remember my first Gala day – I got booed! Booed on Gala day. Only in Silsden… My uncle owned a flat bed lorry and the local referees did a float – I got to sit up front. Sunniest day of the year and as we went round the great and the good had been on the ale all day and we got roundly booed.
Anyway – I’m off down t’front for a go on the slots and a fish’n’chips supper. Hope it were a good ‘un
See ya later
